Facial-feedback theory: putting on a happy face
in other words, in scientific defintions, it is to mimick the facial movements associated with an emotion so as to induce the corresponding emotional state.
usually linked to Duchenne Smile -- simply, a genuine smile.
but how useful is it? we always say that if we try to put on a smile things will not be as bad as it seems. we might forget all unhappiness and recall the pleasant experiences associated with smiling. we do this all the time. yet, putting on a smile merely induces positive feelings, but not the pure feeling of enjoyment.
at least we don't have to appear unhappy all the time.
this smile..
perhaps its simply another form of forgetting? to push aside things which are unpleasant to us so we will forget about them in time? so does that make time the ultimate solution for all the pain in our world? or perhaps its just a regeneration of the soma, as in Brave New World, which makes us forget all things unpleasant. to sleep in it and wake up not having to rmb what happened the day before. to indulge in the fake smile of ours and go on not having to recall any disturbances in our lives.. is that supposed to be sane?
maybe.
